11:23 am - Portland 2600 in 2008

Portland 2600 has taken a dive by all that I can see. Back when we were in the meeting room for the BPA things were hopping and worked well. They now lack direction. If anyone disagrees with me feel free to tell me off.
We need something.
So let’s start with a web site.
I setup one at http://2600pdx.maxmcs.com/ till I get around to registering a good domain for it.
It will be hosted in the same hosting account so I will just move it to that domain without losing any of the data in it.

I haven’t customized it at all just switched themes and added some comments. We have like 3 users but need more.

We need to get organized we need to get this shit back how is use to be. We need to get the old members back. OPUS!!!! Get your ass back in the meetings!!!!

I won’t be there for the one tonight because its Cinco de Maio and I plan on getting drunk if i can manage it.
This cycle seems to happen every 4 or 5 years we go through rounds of people trying to get shit togother but end up in a flame war over who will CONTROL the group. I don’t want to control shit. I just want to see shit work. So in an effort to do this I have setup this site.

Please let’s get back into this. It’s got to get back to how it was.

12:53 pm - Ignorance at it's finest
WARNING: May cause you to become irritated, aggravated or even flat out angry.

Linux: A European threat to our computers.

Wow! So that's what ignorance looks like? That article is just utterly mind numbing! I'm going to have to backup that rj guy me thinks. The commentary after the posting gets even more insane. Amazing! Well, I'd rather be a Linux using commie than a mindless republican sheep. Holy shit!

Oh, and P.S. ;-)

10:20 am - DiVX rippers and cinemaphiles take note
anyone in one the DiVX ripping scene, or those who are just into underground and cult films...

sWARm atLANtis is a codename for a secret lan party, film fest, media convention for film and video geeks. it's being held somewhere in portland in an abandoned theater replete with video,16mm and 35mm projectors. they will be showing all types of weirdness and cult fandom all day and night this upcoming valentines.

file sharing, film to video transfering and maybe some in-theater gaming will be fare of the day.

to attend just go to this webpage and email the admission person. they are giving first tickets to those who can help contribute ie: files and video to share, netowrking help, strong interest, ect.

either way, a Lan party in a theater projecting cult movies should be pretty fucking cool.

An 11-year old student at St. Lucie West Middle School in Florida, has been charged with a felony for attempting to change his grades.
In a clear misapplication of the law, the child, who has not been named, was charged with an offense against intellectual property. It's hard to imagine how changing a grade is any kind of affront to any human being's "intellectual property," but this is what has been claimed, according to the Associated Press.
Legal semantics aside, the ordeal demonstrates a disdainfully low level of understanding and tolerance among school and city officials. Helen Roberts, the school's principal, recommended that the boy be expelled. Ellen Mancini, an assistant state attorney in Florida, called the boy's actions a "scheme to defraud."
Throughout history, in all cultures, youth have been allowed to make mistakes in judgment -- and learn from those mistakes -- as part of growing up. It's a kind of instinctual hacking. In today's panic-stricken U.S.A. however, the supposed rules of childhood become more erratic by the day, and the concept of "zero tolerance" gains increasing ground.
"It's as much a fraud as anything else," Mancini spouted. The student was booked into the St. Lucie County jail on Wedneday

06:14 pm - 2600 meetings still happening
Well I guess I'll pick up and run with it.

Same place and same time for now. Be taking suggestions on where to hold meetings

To keep with the whole land of the free thing, here's my suggested subjects for the meeting. Kind of rushed this time around.
1. Ever wonder what those neat little consoles are at your Blockbusters/Hollywood Video/Fred Meyers/etc? Well unicru is the name and brief intro will be given.
2. WiFi security
3. Monitoring the people that are monitoring you.
4. New Location for meetings
5. Whatever else and anybody can think of, projects welcomed

September 6th Meeting review by ^CircuiT^

The meeting didn't really get going till about 5:20 when the first person showed up other then me (^CircuiT^) and my girl friend. Soon after the rest of the people showed up and befor I knew it we had about 10 people which was an ok turn out for the first meeting at are new location at the 23rd street Coffee People.

This meeting was also special because we had are youngest member ever attend she is the cute little baby holding the copy of 2600 in the picture.

Over all the meeting was good with only two lame people showing up and the conversation was really good also.

One thing people need to understand now more so then the past is the noise level at the meeting. In the past when it was held in the mall we clould be really loud and know one would really care but being in the coffee shop now we need to be more thoughtful of the other people there reading.
